If your skincare routine isn’t working, then you might be making some mistakes.
If there’s one thing we all know, great skin equals timeless beauty.
In recent times, skincare has become of great importance, and as the skin is the largest organ in the human body, it is only rightfully so. Regardless of whatever you do, if your skincare routine isn’t flawless and free from mistakes, you wouldn’t see the results you desire.
So, how do you fix this? Start by identifying the problem; here are some common mistakes you might be making in your skincare routine:
- Popping pimples:
For every progress your skin makes, popping the pimples on your face takes it two steps back, not forgetting the acne pockmarks or scars it may leave behind. To say the truth popping zits might be satisfying, but at what cost?
To say the truth, squeezing at an unpoppable pimple would not only cause you pain but also push bacteria and pus deeper into the skin, resulting in trauma to the skin such as piercing the skin, redness, or swelling.

- Using a bar soap:
If there’s one thing you need to drop out of your skincare routine, it’s the bar soap you use to wash your face. Using bar soap on your face strips the skin of all moisture, allowing a buildup of dead skin cells. Bar soaps also reverse the benefits of an exfoliant used, whether a scrub or chemical exfoliant, instead opt for a hydrating cleanser for the best results.
- Rubbing products into your skin:
Contrary to popular opinion, you don’t have to rub a product deeply into your skin to see its effects. In fact, rubbing hard can irritate your skin, causing redness and swelling.
As a tip, apply products to your face and neck using light, gentle upward strokes.
Before you ask, yes, there is such a thing as over-exfoliating, and it is another significant cause of skin problems. While exfoliating is an important step in skincare, removing dead skin cells, many people take it too far.
Limit exfoliating to at most three times weekly, and be sure to be gentle while exfoliating. Scrubbing too hard will definitely do more harm than good. Choose a gentle chemical exfoliant.
- Applying products in the wrong order:
Applying skincare products in the wrong order can render them useless, especially as some products provide a foundation for others.
So, be sure to start with lighter products, i.e., toner and serum. You can then follow up with an antioxidant, like Vitamin C serums. Next, apply eye cream before moisturizer and oil at the end.
There’s no point in spending all your coins on skincare products that wouldn’t work because of minor mistakes in your routine. All hope isn’t lost though, all you need to do is to go back to the drawing board, identify what mistakes you might be making, and work on fixing them.
