“Seven hundred and twelve days. That’s how long it has been since Phil Jones last started a Premier League game for Manchester United but his long wait is finally over.

“The 29-year-old has not featured at all in almost two years due to what his former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described as a “horrible” run of injuries, but he is fit again now and his commitment in training is said to have impressed Solskjaer’s successor, Ralf Rangnick.

“His inclusion tonight is largely down to injuries, of course, with Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly joining Victor Lindelof on the sidelines. But Jones will be desperate to seize this long-awaited opportunity. Manchester United need him to hit the ground running.

On a run of four wins from five in the Premier League, things are looking up for Manchester United (7th) who will go fifth, a point off the Champions League spots, with a win (they would need to overturn West Ham’s six-goal goal difference advantage – but stranger things have happened).

Wolves (9th) on the other hand are looking to wrestle back eighth spot from Brighton, and will move three points off their hosts if they can earn victory at Old Trafford.
