Edo Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said his administration has abandoned politics stomach infrastructure and is now focused on creating opportunities that will lead to improvements in the lives of the people and contribute to the development of the State.
Obaseki said this on Sunday, while expressing his sadness over the non-representation of his constituency in the State House of Assembly in an address to politicians in Oredo State Constituencies I and II.
Recall that Chris Okaeben and Uyi Ekhosueyi, of Oredo Constituencies I and II respectively who are supposed to represent the Governor in legislative business, were among the 14 members-elect who allegedly absented themselves from inauguration on June 17, 2019 and have had their seats declared vacant by the leadership of the House.
Thus, the Governor, like his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, whose Ganiyu Audu elected to represent Etsako West I also shunned inauguration, has no representation in the State House of Assembly,
During his remark, Obaseki linked the absence of the absentee lawmakers to their inability to accept change.

The Governor who warned against politics of stomach infrastructure, urged urged politicians to represent and speak for the people who voted them into power, rather than any godfather.
This is even as he charged residents to leverage the opportunities created by the state government through its programmes and reforms to better their lives and contribute effectively to the development of the State.
He said: “Our politics has changed, as we don’t play politics of stomach infrastructure. We are creating opportunities for our people, but a majority of them are not keying into these opportunities to better their lives and contribute to the development of Edo State.
“Change is difficult but it must come from Oredo. It’s a shame that a governor has no member representing him from Oredo in the State House of Assembly and is doing the work of the representatives to ensure services get to the people. Politics should not be practiced that way going forward.
“When you bring out people and they voted for, they should be responsible to the people and not to any godfather or leader.
“That is what has happened in Oredo where we have two representatives but none of them are there today because one godfather said they should not go and resume and serve the people,” Obaseki lamented.
