Kelechi Iheanacho has put Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of the Egyptians in their first group match at the AFCON in Garoua Cameroon.

Iheanacho put the Eagles ahead with a lethal left foot shot in the 30th minute, following a Joe Aribo cross.

The Egyptian goalkeeper, Mohamed El Shenawi was caught napping as he couldn’t even make any move to save the shot.

The stunning goal by the Leicester striker was a deserving reward for the Nigerian as they dominated possession in the first half 58-42.

The Super Eagles have also piled more pressure against their opponents, making four attempts at goal and the Egyptians only once.

The Nigerians have also had one shot at goal blocked by Egyptian keeper, Mohamed El Shenawi.

The Pharaohs’ double substitutions meant the match became an end-to-end encounter, Salah denied by Maduka Okoye while Kelechi and substitute Chidera Ejuke also went close for the Eagles.

The Eagles backline however stifled Carlos Quiroz’s men to claim all three points, going top of Group D while Egypt sink to the bottom.
Nigeria will face Sudan in their second game on Saturday 15 January at the same stadium.
