Super Eagles of Nigeria dream of lifting their fourth AFCON title has been dashed on Sunday evening after losing their round of 16 encounter against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia at the Roumdé-Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

Prior to the game, Nigeria were favorites to come out victorious. However, after a goalless affairs in the first half, the North African side came smoking at the resumption of the second half.

Their efforts got rewarded after their striker ball behind Maduka Okoye who was in goal for Nigeria.

Coach Augustine Eguavoen made attempts to change the fortune of the team after he introduced some few players including Alex Iwobi who was issued a red card.

The Center referee dismissed Iwobi over a hard tackle on Tunisian Player.

Meanwhile, there are two players that I would say are responsible for the defeat.

  1. Maduka Okoye:

The goal Tunisia scored should have been parried to the other side by Okoye but instead he pushed the ball into his own net.

  1. Alex Iwobi

Iwobi also played a part in the defeat by conceding the red card over a hard tackle. Iwobi ought to have been careful with his tackles.
