Manchester United left-back Alex Telles is available for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off against Southampton after recovering from Covid-19.

However, midfielder Fred is unavailable as he is still testing positive for the virus.

Defender Eric Bailly remains out with an ankle injury he suffered while at the Africa Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast and midfielder Nemanja Matic has a shin issue

Scott McTominay suffered a heavy knock at the end of Tuesday’s draw against Burnley, but the club are hopeful he will be available for Saturday’s game.

Southampton will be without Nathan Redmond, who remains sidelined by an ankle injury.

No real surprise to see Cristiano Ronaldo return in an otherwise unchanged Manchester United line-up. Though there was disappointment with the result at Turf Moor on Tuesday, Ralf Rangnick has been clear in saying that he sees signs his team is taking shape.

The players will have to prove that today against a Southampton side that could hardly have a clearer vision under Ralph Hasenhuttl. Indeed, Rangnick attempted to adopt the same 4-2-2-2 formation at Old Trafford only to accept it did not suit the personnel available.

Southampton will always try to play on the front foot, pressing that United defence. It should make for an entertaining game at Old Trafford because they do leave space in behind, scoring and conceded in each of their last nine games
