Sanwo-Olu approves increase in BRT fare

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a flat rate increase by N100 in fares for all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Standard routes. With the increase, a bus ride from Ikorodu – TBS will now cost N600 from N500 while Berger to Ajah is now N700, up from N600. Oshodi to Abule Egba will cost N450 from N350 and Abule-Egba-CMS-Obalende will attract a fare of N600. The increase, which will come into effect on Wednesday, 13 July 2022, is aimed at ensuring sustainability of the BRT and standard route schemes. 2023: Lawyers Seek Tinubu, Atiku, Obi’s Disqualification

Atiku and Tinubu Three lawyers have asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to disqualify Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi as presidential candidates in the 2023 general elections. The lawyers, Ataguba Aboje, Oghenovo Otemu, and Ahmed Yusuf, said the three presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress, the People’s Democratic Party and the Labour Party respectively did not comply with the law in the conduct of their primaries. They alleged that the candidates did not announce their running mates before the primary and were therefore not validly nominated and declared the winner. Gospel singer Osinachi begins final journey home (photos)

Osinachi Nwachukwu has begun her final journey home as her body arrives at her hometown in Abia State for interment. The singer’s body was received in her hometown in Amakpoke Umuaku community, Abia around 12:00 pm. Osinachi’s body arrives hometown in grand style Osinachi, who sang the popular song ‘Ekwueme’ died on April 8, 2022. BREAKING : INEC extends voters’ registration by 60 days

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has agreed to extend the ongoing Continuous Voters' Registration (CVR) exercise by 60 days. Registration was initially slated to end in June 30, 2022, but calls to extend the CVR exercise came from Nigerians who are yet to register. On Wednesday, June 15, the House of Representatives urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to extend the June 30, 2022, deadline (read here). Mohammed I. Yaba The Chief Imam of Maiduguri Road Juma’at Mosque in Kaduna, Malam Dahiru Lawal Abubakar, has died at the age of 52. Daily Trust gathered that the Chief Imam, who was until his death, an Upper Sharia Court Judge in Makarfi Local Government Area of the state, died after a brief illness. He was being treated at the 44 Army Reference Hospital before he died in the early hours of Wednesday. Abubakar was one of the son’s of late renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Lawal Abubakar, and an older brother to a former editor of Daily Trust newspaper, Malam Nasiru Lawal Abubakar. BREAKING : NAFDAC workers embark on strike

Members of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have embarked on a strike over the non-payment of their allowance. Addressing newsmen at the NAFDAC office in Lagos on Wednesday June 22, Auwalu Yusuf Kiyawa, state chairman of the union, said the strike begins with immediate effect. Three Senators have dumped the All Progressives Congress for Peoples Democratic Party and New Nigeria Peoples Party. The lawmakers are Senators Ahmad Babba Kaita (Katsina North), Lawal Yahaya Gumau (Bauchi South), and Francis Alimikhena (Edo North). While Babba Kaita and Alimikhena defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Gumau defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party. Their defection was confirmed in three separate letters read during plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan on Tuesday June 21. Dmitry Muratov, an award-winning Russian journalist has raised more than $100 million for Ukrainian children by auctioning off his Nobel Peace Prize. Muratov who was awarded the gold medal in October 2021, having helped found the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, smashed the record for the highest sum paid for the medal last night in New York City. He raised $103.5 million (£84.5 million), a sum 27 times higher than the old record set eight years ago. The journalist will be giving the money to Ukrainian child refugees to give them ‘a chance for a future’. The Association of Resident Doctors at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, on Tuesday, embarked on a two-day warning strike over an alleged assault on one of them by a nurse. According to resident doctors, the warning strike would commence from 8 am Tuesday, June 21, 2022, to 7:59 am on Thursday, June 23, 2022.
