
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded more than 3.4 million new voters in the ongoing second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the country.
In its week 13 update released on Wednesday in Abuja, the commission disclosed that a total of 3,441,121 registrations had been completed as of April 3, covering both online pre-registrations and in-person enrolment.
According to INEC, 2,068,384 applicants registered through its online platform, while 1,372,737 others completed the process physically at designated centres nationwide.
A breakdown by state showed that Jigawa led with 201,047 registrants, representing 5.84 percent of the total. Lagos followed with 181,095, while Kano ranked third with 177,681 registrations.
Young people dominated the exercise, with individuals aged 18 to 34 accounting for 2,354,768 registrations—about 68.43 percent of the total figure.
In terms of gender distribution, women recorded higher participation, making up 1,922,143 (55.86 percent) of registrants, compared to 1,518,978 men (44.14 percent).
By occupation, students formed the largest group with 1,235,931 registrations (35.92 percent), followed by those in business at 701,912 (20.40 percent), and individuals in farming and fishing at 615,967 (18.28 percent).
INEC also noted that 48,330 Persons with Disabilities registered during the period.
The commission described the figures as provisional, explaining that they are subject to data clean-up, claims, and objections, as well as verification through the Automated Biometric Identification System.
It further stated that voter registration remains suspended in the Federal Capital Territory in line with Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, following the Area Council election held on February 21.
INEC encouraged eligible Nigerians who have yet to register to complete the process via its official platforms before the deadline.
