Cristiano Ronaldo breaks speaks on reports of him threatening to leave Portugal camp

Cristiano Ronaldo has reacted after social media speculation that he wanted to leave Portugal's World Cup camp, insisting the squad are 'too strong to be broken by outside forces'. The former Man. United striker irked his manager Fernando Santos after he appeared unhappy in their 2-1 loss to South Korea. And when he was dropped by his coach for their last-16 clash against Switzerland - which they won 6-1, he was said to have threatened to fly home. But Portugal later hit out at the rumours, saying Ronaldo 'builds up a unique track record every day at the service of the national team and the country, which must be respected and which attests to the unquestionable degree of commitment to the national team.'  The 37-year-old has broken his silence since the r...

Head coach Fernando Santos was also not happy by his captain's furious reaction to being substituted in their final group outing against South Korea, but insists the decision not to start him against Switzerland was a tactical one. In his absence,  21-year-old Goncalo Ramos made his first international start and netted a hat-trick in a commanding 6-1 victory. Cristiano Ronaldo ‘demands’ £17m payment from former club after Man Utd exit amid broken ‘promise’

According to reports, former Man Utd attacker Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘demanding’ Juventus to pay the £17m that was ‘promised’ to him before he left. Ronaldo’s second spell at Manchester United ended on a sour note as he felt like he had to force his way out of the club. The 37-year-old returned to the club before the 2021/22 campaign. That season was a success for Ronaldo personally as he scored 18 goals in the Premier League The season was less of a success for United though as they finished down in sixth in the league. Ronaldo, clearly unimpressed at the thought of playing in the Europa League, looked to engineer himself a move away from the club in the summer. He was not on the same page as the club, however, as they refused to let him leave during the summer. The f...

Watching W’Cup from home hurts, Eagles stars lament

The failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2022 World Cup has marked the beginning of a long, torturous and painful wait for another four years for Nigeria to appear at football’s showpiece event, according to some Nigerian footballers, The PUNCH reports. By not qualifying alone for the tournament, the Eagles lost about N4bn. One of the players who featured in both legs of the final playoffs against Ghana, Oghenekaro Etebo, said the Eagles’ failure to qualify for World Cup in Qatar remains the lowest point of his career. “I have had good memories, was at the last edition in Russia and I had hopes of playing in Qatar, but it was not meant to be,” Etebo said. “It hurts not playing in Qatar but as a team, we will ensure we qualify for the next edition.”...
