2027: INEC Will Not Deliver a Perfect Election Yet – Amupitan {VIDEO}

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has stated that while the commission is committed to conducting a credible election in 2027, Nigerians should not expect a flawless process.

Speaking on Sunday at a Citizens Town Hall on the Electoral Act 2026, Amupitan said INEC would make every effort to organise the best possible election but acknowledged that achieving absolute perfection is unrealistic at this time.

He appealed to Nigerians to moderate their expectations, noting that although the commission has the capacity to electronically transmit election results and intends to do so, concerns remain about expectations surrounding real-time transmission.

“INEC will strive as much as possible to give this country the best election; however, we will not be able to achieve a 100 percent perfect election for now,” he said. “As far as electronic transmission of results is concerned, we have the capacity and we are going to transmit them. The only concern is what people define as real time.”

‘2027 Will Be the Best’

Amupitan also assured citizens of INEC’s preparedness to conduct a peaceful, transparent and credible poll in 2027. He expressed optimism that the upcoming general election would surpass previous ones in quality and public confidence.

According to him, Nigerian voters are now more politically aware and better understand the link between credible elections and national development.

“By the grace of God, the 2027 election will be the best Nigeria has ever had,” he said, adding that building public trust in INEC and elected leaders is essential for the nation’s progress.
