Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will step down at the end of the season, bringing an extraordinary 10-year reign at the Etihad Stadium to an end.
The club confirmed on Friday that the Spanish manager, who joined City in July 2016, will leave his role this summer after becoming the most successful manager in the club’s history. Manchester City said Guardiola will leave having won 20 trophies during his time in charge.

Explaining his decision, Guardiola said there was no single reason behind his departure, but admitted that “deep inside” he knew it was time to leave.
He also paid an emotional tribute to Manchester, the club’s supporters, his players, staff and family, saying the memories and love he has for the club would remain with him.
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak described Guardiola’s decade at the club as one built on honesty and trust, adding that the manager had changed not only Manchester City but football itself.
City chief executive Ferran Soriano also praised Guardiola’s impact, saying the club had been privileged to work with him for 10 years.
Guardiola’s reign delivered six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, three FA Cups, five League Cups, one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup and three Community Shields.
His City team also set several major records, including becoming the first Premier League side to reach 100 points in a season during the 2017/18 campaign.
In 2022/23, Guardiola led Manchester City to a historic treble, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.
The following season, City became the first team in English football history to win four consecutive top-flight league titles.
Guardiola is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers in football history, with his style of play influencing clubs across England and beyond.
His final game as Manchester City manager will be against Aston Villa on Sunday, according to reports.
