Former Minister of Transportation and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that losing the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket to President Bola Tinubu had a significant impact on both his personal life and spiritual journey.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Amaechi said the defeat affected him beyond politics, pushing him into a period of spiritual uncertainty and reflection.
According to him, his focus after the primary election was less about personal disappointment and more about the hardship Nigerians were experiencing.
Amaechi explained that he became deeply troubled by the suffering across the country and began questioning why Nigerians continued to endure hardship despite persistent prayers. He noted that the experience weakened his faith and disrupted his prayer life.
The former governor admitted that he stopped attending regular prayer meetings with his spiritual mentor during that period.
He said the state of the nation led him to withdraw emotionally and reflect deeply, creating a gap in his usual spiritual routine.
“I began to ask God, ‘Do you honestly believe Nigerians should continue to suffer?’ That experience affected my faith a bit, and I stopped praying,” Amaechi said.
Amaechi further disclosed that his spiritual mentor later reached out after noticing his absence. During their conversation, his concerns about the country and doubts about prayer were discussed, while he was encouraged to maintain faith and accept circumstances beyond human control.
