NABTEB Extends Registration Period for 2026 Technical College Entrance

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has announced an extension of the registration period for the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into technical colleges.

The development was confirmed by the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Dr Aminu Mohammed, in a statement issued on Sunday in Benin through the board’s Deputy Director of Media and Protocol, Uchechukwu Olisah.

Dr Mohammed said the board approved a four-month registration window after receiving clearance for the 2026 examination and registration schedule from the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa.

According to him, registration will open on January 26 and end on May 24, while the examination is scheduled to hold nationwide on June 6.

He explained that the decision to extend the registration period was aimed at reducing the usual rush, easing pressure on the registration platform, and lowering financial and logistical stress for candidates, parents, and schools.

“This extended timeline is a deliberate policy move to ensure adequate preparation, reduce congestion on the registration portal, and minimise financial and logistical challenges for parents and guardians,” Mohammed stated.

The registrar added that NABTEB has enhanced its administrative and technological systems to guarantee a smooth and user-friendly registration process, with measures in place to prevent disruptions.

“NABTEB has implemented comprehensive measures to provide a seamless and stress-free registration experience for candidates, parents, guardians, and schools, while upholding the highest standards of examination integrity,” he said.

He advised candidates to register strictly through the official NABTEB online portal and cautioned against the use of unauthorised agents or third-party platforms.

“All registrations must be completed exclusively via NABTEB’s official portal. Candidates and guardians are encouraged to register early to avoid last-minute issues,” he added.

Reiterating the board’s commitment to transparency and professionalism, Mohammed said NABTEB remains focused on widening access to technical education while protecting the credibility of its examinations.

He further noted that the board will continue to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to strengthen skills-based education nationwide.

Dr Mohammed also encouraged Nigerians to embrace Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), describing it as a practical route to employable skills, entrepreneurship, and economic independence.

“Technical and Vocational Education and Training equips young people with the practical skills needed for national development,” he said, urging Nigerians to “choose skills, choose opportunity, and choose a secure future.”
