President Bola Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that the renewed appointment took effect on Friday, February 27. Audi is expected to resume duties on Monday, March 2, under a fresh mandate.
President Tinubu tasked him with strengthening and repositioning the Corps to assume a greater role in national security, particularly as the police concentrate on combating banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
Audi was initially appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His first five-year tenure concluded last Friday, coinciding with activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Audi began his academic journey in his home state before obtaining a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from Teachers’ College, Jengre, Plateau State, in 1987.
He later earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992. In 1995, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Audi went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Public Administration from University of Calabar in 2001. He earned a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University in 2014 and later completed a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice at Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.
He joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996 and, after completing basic officer training in 1997, was deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. In 2007, he was promoted to Commandant and assigned to the office of the Commandant-General at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja, serving in various state commands before his elevation to lead the agency.
