At least 201 people have been killed and 747 others wounded following ongoing strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, according to the Iran Red Crescent Society.
As reported by Al Jazeera, citing Mehr news agency, a spokesperson for the Red Crescent confirmed that attacks have affected 24 provinces across Iran. More than 220 rescue teams have been deployed to impacted areas, with emergency operations still underway.
Among the casualties are over 40 schoolgirls who lost their lives in a strike on a girls’ elementary school in Minab, located in Hormozgan Province in southern Iran. It remains unclear whether US or Israeli forces were responsible for that particular attack.
The school incident was part of a broader wave of strikes carried out early Saturday, shortly after nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
In retaliation, Iran launched missile attacks that damaged a nine-storey building in northern Israel, leaving one man with minor injuries. Channel 12 reported that Israeli defence systems intercepted the missiles, though debris struck the building.
Israel has restricted citizens and media from disclosing details about the impact of the Iranian strikes, complicating efforts to assess the full extent of the damage. Nevertheless, sirens have continued to sound across the country, with authorities urging residents to seek shelter. Schools, airports, and public facilities have been closed.
Iran has also shut down its airspace and suspended activities in schools and public institutions. In addition, the country’s National Security Council has advised residents of Tehran to temporarily relocate where possible to reduce exposure to potential strikes.
The conflict escalated earlier on Saturday when US and Israeli forces launched coordinated attacks on Iran. Iran subsequently responded by targeting Israel and US military bases in the Middle East. One fatality has been confirmed in the United Arab Emirates as a result of Iran’s missile strikes.
Several Middle Eastern nations affected by the retaliatory attacks have condemned the escalation.
