The Nigeria Police Force has arrested singer Rolex Dee over allegations of defamation and online harassment involving fellow artiste Taye Currency.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the development while dismissing claims circulating online that the arrest was unlawful, describing such reports as misleading.
According to the police, the case began after a formal complaint was filed by Taye Currency, who accused Rolex Dee of tarnishing his image, engaging in cyberbullying, and issuing threats across multiple social media platforms.
Investigators later tracked the singer to Lagos, where he was apprehended. The arrest is linked to comments he allegedly made during an appearance on the Agbaletu programme, which went viral and drew significant public attention.
Authorities noted that the statements made during the broadcast were deemed damaging and intensified the alleged offences, prompting further police action.
“The reports being circulated are unverified and capable of misleading the public,” the police said, adding that the suspect’s remarks during the programme contributed to the gravity of the allegations.
