Rotimi Amaechi Rejects ADC Vice Presidential Speculation

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed rumours suggesting he may settle for the vice-presidential position ahead of the next general election.

Naija News reports that Amaechi made the clarification during an interview on Trust TV while addressing the contest for the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress.

The former Rivers State governor stated that he did not purchase the ADC presidential nomination form with the intention of later accepting a vice-presidential slot.

According to him, if the party intends to adopt a consensus candidate, all aspirants must first meet and agree on the arrangement. Otherwise, the contest should proceed to the primary election stage.

“Please stop that. I did not buy the ADC presidential form to become a Vice President,” he said.

Meanwhile, Amaechi also spoke on the issue of power rotation in Nigeria, insisting that the southern region should be allowed to complete its turn in leadership.

He noted that political power in the country has historically rotated between the northern and southern regions and argued that the arrangement should continue in the interest of fairness and balance.

Speaking further during the interview, Amaechi pointed out that former President Muhammadu Buhari completed two terms in office, while President Bola Tinubu is currently serving, stressing that the South has not yet exhausted its turn under the informal power-sharing structure.

Although he said he does not entirely support zoning, Amaechi maintained that political rotation remains important in Nigeria’s democratic system and urged other political actors to support the principle.
