The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified efforts to broaden its political reach ahead of the 2027 general election, inviting former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Governor Seyi Makinde, and other prominent figures to join the party.
The outreach followed the inauguration of the ADC’s North-East Zonal Congress Committee, which the party described as part of a renewed strategy to strengthen internal structures, promote democracy within the party, and position itself for national leadership.
Factional National Chairman Nafiu Gombe announced the development in a communiqué on Tuesday, following the inauguration ceremony in Gombe State on January 11, presided over by Dr. Muhammad Muhammad.
The communiqué highlighted the appointment of Mrs. Patience Alex as Chairperson of the North-East Zonal Congress Committee and Mr. Abayomi Adekunle as Chairman of the Zonal Appeal Committee. Gombe said these appointments reflect the party’s commitment to credible and transparent processes and to deepening internal democracy.
He also directly appealed to prominent political figures to join the ADC, emphasizing their experience and leadership as critical to uniting efforts to reposition Nigeria.
“The authentic national leadership of the ADC passionately invites the following eminent personalities to join the party in its mission to rebuild and reposition Nigeria: Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki, former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Governor Alex Otti of Abia, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio,” Gombe stated.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to offering a credible, inclusive, and progressive platform focused on good governance, national unity, and sustainable development, while continuing to mobilize Nigerians across all regions for a new political direction anchored on accountability and equity.
The announcement comes amid ongoing political realignments, shortly after Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi joined the David Mark-led ADC, fueling speculation about emerging alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
