Nigerian disc jockey and producer DJ Neptune has expressed concerns that artificial intelligence (AI) may soon take over the role of music producers.
Speaking in response to media personality N6, who had earlier shared a similar view, DJ Neptune recounted a surprising experience. He revealed that he once considered signing an artist after being impressed by a track, only to later discover that the song was entirely generated by AI.
N6 had earlier written on X that AI is gradually set to disrupt the music production and mastering industry, describing what he had encountered as alarming and calling for divine help for those in the ecosystem.
Reacting, DJ Neptune agreed, explaining that he was stunned upon learning the track he admired was not created by a human artist.
AI technology is increasingly gaining ground in music creation, with both emerging and established artists, producers, and sound engineers using it to refine beats, vocals, and overall sound quality.
As a result, the Recording Academy has revised its guidelines, allowing songs that incorporate AI elements to qualify for the Grammys, provided there is significant human input.
Despite this, debates continue within the industry, with many stakeholders advocating for the preservation of human creativity, raising concerns about originality, authenticity, and ownership in AI-generated music.
