Akor Adams Nets Brace for Sevilla Shortly After AFCON 2025 Return

Super Eagles forward Akor Adams made a stunning return to club football on Monday night, coming off the bench to score twice and earn Sevilla FC a 2–2 draw against Elche CF, ending the club’s four-game losing streak in all competitions.

Fresh from Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 campaign, Adams delivered a game-changing performance after Sevilla had gone two goals down.

Elche started brightly and took the lead within the opening 15 minutes when Martim Neto split Sevilla’s backline to release Aleix Febas, who calmly fired past goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.

The hosts doubled their advantage shortly after the break, with Germán Valera finding space in the area and finishing confidently to put Elche in firm control.

Sevilla manager Matías Almeyda introduced Adams at the start of the second half, and the striker made an instant impact. The 25-year-old pulled one back to end Sevilla’s five-match scoring drought and swing the momentum in their favour.

Deep into stoppage time, Sevilla were awarded a penalty for handball, and Adams kept his composure to convert from the spot, completing his brace and salvaging a point for his side.

Another Nigerian international, Chidera Ejuke, also returned from AFCON duty and was brought on in the 65th minute, helping Sevilla steady themselves as they finally brought an end to a run of defeats dating back to December 17.

Adams was a standout performer for Nigeria at AFCON 2025, playing in all seven matches and registering two goals and two assists as the Super Eagles finished third at the tournament.
