The All Progressives Congress (APC) will begin electing party officials from the ward to national level starting next Monday as part of early preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The exercise will cover ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, concluding with a national convention at the end of March. This follows the completion of the party’s nationwide digital membership e-registration, which ends tomorrow, January 30, 2026.
Naija News reports that the e-registration, launched in December 2025 under the National Working Committee (NWC), integrates National Identity Number (NIN) verification and digital data capture to enhance membership records, demographic insights, and grassroots mobilisation.
The commencement of the congresses was confirmed late Wednesday during a meeting of the Progressive Governors Forum in Abuja, where APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and NWC members provided a detailed briefing.
Both the governors and party leadership reaffirmed their commitment to the timetable ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC) in December, stressing that the process must be transparent, inclusive, and anchored in internal democracy to maintain party unity.
Governors in Attendance
Present at the meeting were governors including Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Mohammed Idris (Kebbi), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and Umar Bago (Niger), among others.
In a communiqué, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) reiterated its commitment to strengthening internal democracy, reinforcing party structures, and promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness within the APC across all levels.
The forum also welcomed the briefing on the national digital membership update, highlighting the significant growth achieved, including increased youth participation and NIN integration, which will support data-driven planning and deepen grassroots engagement.
Timetable and Financial Management Endorsed
The governors reviewed and approved the full timetable and institutional framework for the congresses and national convention as ratified by NEC. They also emphasized transparent and coordinated financial management throughout the process to ensure fairness, consistency, and accountability, even in states without APC-led administrations.
The PGF stressed that internal harmony and disciplined leadership communication are vital for public confidence in the party and announced plans for strategic state visits to reinforce grassroots cohesion, beginning with Taraba State.
