The Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma, has clarified that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no plans to alter its zoning structure ahead of its upcoming national convention.
Speaking to journalists after a PGF meeting in Lagos on Sunday, Uzodinma stated that the current zoning arrangement remains unchanged, noting that key positions such as the presidency and vice presidency are still occupied.
He explained that the convention is not meant for primary elections, as those for elective offices will be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Instead, the gathering will focus on selecting party officials responsible for running the APC.
Meanwhile, the governor has engaged key party stakeholders in Imo State ahead of the party’s ward and local government congresses, urging unity and cooperation among members.
Addressing party leaders at the Government House in Owerri, Uzodinma emphasised that the outcome of the congresses would play a significant role in shaping the party’s future and electoral success.
He called for discipline, peaceful collaboration, and mutual understanding among aspirants and members, stressing that unity remains the foundation of the party’s strength.
Uzodinma also advocated inclusive leadership, encouraging party leaders to consider diverse opinions in decision-making and to resolve disagreements through dialogue.
He further urged members to prioritise collective goals over personal ambitions, while appreciating party leaders and grassroots mobilisers for their contributions to the party’s growth across the state.
Other party officials, including state chairman MacDonald Ebere, commended members for their participation in the ongoing electronic registration exercise and praised the governor for fostering a supportive environment for the party.
Similarly, Godwin Anawore, chairman of the committee overseeing the ward and LGA congresses, highlighted the importance of the exercise in strengthening the party ahead of future elections and expressed confidence in its success.
