Baba Fryo Slams Wizkid: “I’m Ashamed of This Gen Z” Over Fela Comparison

Nigerian music veteran Baba Fryo has criticized Afrobeat star Wizkid for claiming he is “bigger than Fela Kuti,” describing the remark as disrespectful to the late music legend.

The controversy erupted following an online feud between Wizkid and Seun Kuti, Fela’s son. The clash began when Seun reprimanded Wizkid’s fans for comparing the contemporary artist to his father, calling it “an insult to Fela’s legacy” and urging them to stop using Fela’s name in fan debates.

Wizkid later responded on Instagram, asserting that he was “bigger than Fela” and taunting Seun Kuti, writing messages such as, “@bigbirdkuti I’m Big Wiz, everyday bigger than your papa!! Wetin u one do, fool?” and “Hungry bastard.”

Reacting to the online spat, Baba Fryo expressed his disappointment, saying, “I just dey shame for this Gen Z. How can these kids compare a kid to an elder? Fela was a great musician, a multi-instrumentalist, a revolutionist. He wasn’t just an artiste but a full-time musician, and he remained relevant for over 30 years until the day he died.”

He also drew a cultural comparison, adding, “A Jamaican artiste would never do such to Bob Marley. I dey shame for this youth. Call Gen Zero sense. Mtcheew.”
