‘Beauty Of Democracy’ – Fubara Pledges Cooperation With APC Lawmakers

]

Siminalayi Fubara has promised to maintain a cordial working relationship with both ranking and newly elected members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The assurance followed the February 21 by-elections into the state assembly, where APC candidates secured key seats.

In the polls, Ukalikpe Napoleon won the Ahoada East State Constituency II seat, while Loolo Bulabari Henrietta emerged victorious in Khana State Constituency II.

Governor Fubara described their wins as a reflection of the electorate’s confidence in their leadership capacity.

“It is the beauty of democracy. When the people believe in you, they entrust you with their votes,” he stated.

Extending an olive branch, the governor expressed readiness to collaborate with the new lawmakers and other members of the Assembly to drive the state’s development goals.

“I look forward to working with them and their colleagues in the Rivers State House of Assembly for the overall progress of our state,” he added.

He also applauded residents of Ahoada East and Khana constituencies for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process, describing it as a sign of democratic maturity.

The conciliatory remarks come amid recent political tensions in the state. On February 19, the Rivers Assembly suspended impeachment proceedings earlier initiated against Fubara following months of strained relations.

The political crisis had placed the governor at odds with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, with the dispute reportedly resulting in a six-month state of emergency before stability was gradually restored.
