Senate Deputy Minority Leader Oyewumi Defects From PDP to Accord Party
The Senator representing Osun West, Lere Oyewumi, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the Accord Party.
Oyewumi, who was elected on the PDP platform during the 2023 general elections, announced his defection in a statement issued on Monday in Osogbo.
Prior to his departure, Oyewumi was the last PDP senator from Osun State. His exit follows the earlier defections of two other senators from the state—Olubiyi Fadeyi and Francis Fadahunsi—who had previously joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP in Osun had also lost three members of the House of Representatives of Nigeria to the APC during a wave of defections in 2025.
