The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed as false a viral image of a ₦5,000 note featuring Bola Tinubu circulating on social media.
In a post shared on its 𝕏 account, the apex bank urged the public to ignore the image, stating clearly that it did not release any such note.
“This content is fake. Let the public be guided,” the CBN said, putting to rest claims that the image was an official sample.
The clarification followed widespread speculation online suggesting the bank had introduced a new ₦5,000 denomination with Tinubu’s portrait.
In a related development, the CBN also refuted reports alleging that businessman Razaq Okoya is set to acquire Polaris Bank after a supposed liquidation process.
The claim, which circulated on 𝕏, suggested Okoya had placed a bid for the bank due to recapitalisation challenges. However, the CBN described the report as false, reassuring the public of the stability of the banking sector.
“The Nigerian banking system is safe and secure,” the apex bank stated.
