Chiamaka Nnadozie Cautions Super Falcons Over Difficult Zambia Clash as WAFCON 2026 Title Race Begins

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has warned that Nigeria’s Group C campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will be fiercely contested, describing Zambia as a particularly tough opponent as the defending champions pursue another continental crown.

Speaking during an interview on Super Falcons Show, the Paris FC goalkeeper acknowledged Zambia’s growing strength and believes the West Africans should expect a more challenging encounter than their last meeting.

According to Nnadozie, facing Zambia at the 2026 WAFCON will be anything but easy, noting that although Nigeria emerged victorious in their previous clash, it was a hard-fought battle. She added that the Zambian team would be eager to respond and prove their quality, describing them as a strong football nation.

Despite her caution, Nnadozie expressed confidence in the Super Falcons squad, praising the team’s depth, youth, and hunger to compete at the highest level. She noted that while Zambia boast quality players, Nigeria also possess a talented, energetic, and determined group ready to fight for success.

Addressing Nigeria’s bid to retain the WAFCON title, the goalkeeper emphasised the importance of focus, discipline, and strict adherence to tactical instructions. She admitted that defending the trophy would be difficult, stressing that no opponent would willingly allow Nigeria to dominate again. However, she remains optimistic, insisting the team must stay committed to training hard and believing in their quest for a historic tenth title.

Recently named Africa’s Best Goalkeeper for the third straight year, Nnadozie attributed the honour to the collective effort of her teammates and coaching staff, describing their support as vital to her success.

With the 2026 WAFCON also serving as a qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 23-year-old acknowledged the increased pressure and intensity surrounding the tournament. She noted that the upcoming edition would be more demanding than the previous one, adding that the team is taking things step by step.

On dealing with pressure during crucial moments, Nnadozie explained that staying calm has become one of her greatest strengths, allowing her to think clearly, react faster, and perform better between the posts.
