Popular content creator Esther Thomas, widely known as Sunshine, has died after developing complications from surgery to remove fibroids.
Naija News reports that her family confirmed she passed away on January 9, 2026, after undergoing the medical procedure.
In a statement shared via her Instagram page, the family announced the sad news, saying:
“With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved sister and daughter, Esther Thomas (aka Sunshine), who died on January 9, 2026, following an unsuccessful surgery.”
Sunshine had reportedly been experiencing severe abdominal pain since late December 2025. She initially sought treatment at Orchid General Hospital in Lagos, where she was given pain relief due to an ongoing doctors’ strike.
As her condition deteriorated, she was moved to another hospital on January 2 for further care. Medical examinations later revealed a large fibroid, and surgery was advised.
Although the operation was initially described as successful, Sunshine later developed complications that ultimately led to her death.
“According to the doctors, the surgery went well, but complications later set in and resulted in her passing,” a fellow content creator revealed.
Sunshine was widely known for her entertaining skits, modelling, brand partnerships, and video appearances. Her family has begun funeral arrangements and has appealed to friends, colleagues, and fans to respect their privacy during this period of mourning.
