Done Deal : Super Eagles Forward Salim Fago Lawal Signs for Czech Side Viktoria Plzen

Super Eagles forward Salim Fago Lawal has sealed a move to Czech First Division outfit Viktoria Plzen, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract with the club.

The 23-year-old made the switch from Croatian side NK Istra after an impressive stint in which he scored 15 goals and provided two assists.

Speaking to Viktoria Plzen’s official website, Lawal expressed his excitement about the move, citing the club’s strong reputation in European competitions.

“I know Viktoria mainly from their performances in European tournaments, where the club has achieved consistent success. This offer really appealed to me, and I see it as a major step forward in my career. I’m eager to contribute to the team as much as possible,” he said.

Lawal added that his recent involvement with the national team at the Africa Cup of Nations has kept him match-fit and ready to make an immediate impact.

“Having been with the national team at the AFCON, I feel well prepared and ready to be fully available to the coaches right away. I’m looking forward to my first training session and meeting my new teammates.”

Viktoria Plzen’s sporting director, Martin Vozábal, also welcomed the Nigerian forward, noting that his arrival would strengthen the club’s attacking options.

“Following Rafiu Durosinmi’s departure, we wanted to boost competition in our attack, and the signing of Salim Fago Lawal achieves that. We have monitored him in the Croatian league and see him as a quick, versatile player who can operate both as a striker and on the wing. I’m pleased we were able to complete the transfer and have him available for the league opener this weekend.”
