Ex-APC Presidential Aspirant Resigns, Citing Discontent with Party Leadership

Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant from Enugu State, has officially quit the party, expressing dissatisfaction with the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the current state of affairs in Nigeria.

In a resignation letter addressed to his ward chairman in Awgu Local Government Area, Ogbonnia criticized the APC leadership for failing to tackle key issues such as insecurity, poverty, and unemployment. He also accused the party of undemocratic practices, nepotism, marginalization of loyal members, and neglect of youth inclusion in federal appointments.

Ogbonnia further condemned what he described as foreign military intervention resulting from the government’s handling of security challenges, and denounced plans to endorse President Tinubu for a second term in 2027, calling it “a gross insult to the sensibilities of Nigerians.”

The resignation, dated Tuesday, was copied to all levels of the party and accompanied by Ogbonnia’s APC membership card. He explained that the decision followed “extensive consultation” with family and political allies and reflection on Nigeria’s political realities.

Ogbonnia concluded by thanking the party for support during his 2019 presidential bid while affirming that he could no longer align with a political path that, in his view, undermines democracy and good governance.
