Harry Maguire has committed his future to Manchester United after signing a new one-year contract extension, with the option to prolong it by an additional year.
The 33-year-old defender was nearing the end of his previous deal, which was set to expire at the close of the season. The new agreement could see him remain at Old Trafford through an eighth season since his record £80 million move from Leicester City in 2019 — a fee that was a world record for a defender at the time.
Since joining United, Maguire has made 266 appearances and played a key role in the club’s success, including winning the League Cup in the 2022–23 season and the FA Cup the following year.
Reacting to the extension, Maguire described playing for Manchester United as a great honour and expressed pride in continuing his journey with the club, while looking forward to creating more memorable moments with the fans.
His future had previously been uncertain after he lost the captaincy under former manager Erik ten Hag and came close to joining West Ham United in 2023 before the transfer fell through.
Game time was also limited under Ruben Amorim, but his situation improved following the arrival of interim manager Michael Carrick, under whom he has started every match since mid-January 2026.
Maguire also highlighted the ambition within the squad, expressing confidence that the team is determined to compete for major trophies.
Meanwhile, the club’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised Maguire’s professionalism, leadership, and experience, describing him as a key figure in guiding the club’s young and ambitious squad.
