Celebrity fashion designer, Toyin Lawani, has accused a Lagos-based private hospital, Euracare, of serious medical complications following a spine surgery she underwent at the facility.
Recall that the founder of Tiannah Empire made the allegation on Sunday through several posts shared on her Instagram page, where she narrated her experience and ongoing health struggles after the procedure.
According to Lawani, she visited the hospital for spine surgery, but later lost proper use of her legs and developed severe lung problems.
She said she spent close to ₦100 million on medical bills at the hospital, yet her condition worsened instead of improving.
Lawani stated that after the surgery, she began to experience major complications, including bleeding in her lungs.
This led to another operation the next day. She explained that during this period, she stopped breathing and doctors had to puncture her lungs, a process she said damaged her vocal cords.
She further revealed that after being discharged, she lost the use of both legs and had to return to the same hospital.
At that point, she contacted an ear, nose and throat specialist in the United Kingdom, who advised the hospital to carry out a third surgery to remove a tracheotomy tube and check if she could breathe on her own.
After that procedure, Lawani said she travelled to the UK with her family for further treatment.
On arrival, doctors there informed her that she needed yet another surgery after discovering an infection in her lungs, showing her large lumps caused by the infection.
She disclosed that she is still receiving treatment and moving in and out of the hospital due to the complications.
Lawani also accused the hospital of being careless and said patients are made to keep paying even when the problems are caused by poor medical handling.
The fashion designer warned that she plans to take legal action against the hospital once she regains enough strength, stating that she is still dealing with the consequences of the treatment she received there.
Her outburst comes shortly after award-winning writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie accused the same hospital of negligence that allegedly led to the death of her son earlier in the week.
