A Rivers State political stakeholder, Annkio Briggs, has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the lingering political crisis in the state.
According to Naija News, Briggs made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where she dismissed claims suggesting that Rivers State cannot function without Wike.
Commenting on the impeachment moves against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, Briggs questioned the alleged agreement frequently referenced by Wike and members of the State Assembly.
She insisted that the majority of Rivers people are firmly in support of Governor Fubara and described it as unacceptable to suggest that the state’s existence depends on one individual.
“What is this agreement he keeps talking about?” she asked. “Everybody is shouting agreement—lawmakers, supporters—saying ‘no Wike, no Rivers State.’ You cannot say that. How can a whole state cease to exist without one man? Where is that politically right or acceptable?”
Briggs argued that while such statements might be tolerated elsewhere, Rivers State residents do not share that view. She stressed that Fubara enjoys widespread grassroots support across the state.
According to her, even if the governor were to defect to another political party for survival, his organic support base would remain intact.
“I may not belong to the APC,” she added, “but I am a daughter of Rivers State. When it comes to voting, I know who I will support. It will depend on what the candidate offers and the prevailing circumstances.”
