Nigerian businessman and socialite, Obinna Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has stated that his growing interest in politics is rooted in a desire to encourage meaningful dialogue and inclusive governance across Nigeria.
In a statement released on Monday, Obi Cubana clarified that his engagement in political discussions is not driven by personal ambition or the pursuit of benefits.
The billionaire entrepreneur emphasized that his success as a private citizen stems from hard work, entrepreneurship, and calculated investments, noting that he has never held any public office or relied on government patronage.
According to him, his involvement is focused on bridging the disconnect between the government and the people—particularly among young Nigerians and across different regions of the country.
He further urged leaders at all levels to prioritize transparency, accountability, and empathy, stressing that public trust remains the backbone of any functioning democracy.
Addressing recent criticism over comments attributed to him about the Igbo people, Obi Cubana firmly dismissed such claims, reiterating that he does not support any narrative that questions the intelligence, unity, or contributions of any ethnic group in Nigeria.
He explained that his goal is to foster constructive engagement, especially between the youth, the older generation, and policymakers, while encouraging better communication and implementation of government policies.
Obi Cubana also highlighted the need for coordinated governance across local, state, and federal levels, noting that development cannot be effectively achieved through a centralized approach alone.
Speaking on his association with the City Boy Movement, he described it as a platform aimed at promoting active civic participation, particularly among young people and the private sector.
He cautioned against interpreting political involvement through an ethnic lens, emphasizing that democracy should be driven by ideas, policies, and collective national progress rather than divisive narratives.
