JUST IN : AGN Lifts Suspension on Actress Halima Abubakar

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has lifted the suspension placed on Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar, bringing to an end a disciplinary measure that lasted more than a year.

Abubakar was placed on an indefinite suspension in October 2024 following allegations of defamation involving fellow actors and other prominent Nigerians. After an extensive investigation, a disciplinary panel found her culpable and barred her from participating in AGN activities and film productions.

However, the guild announced on Thursday that the suspension had been lifted.

The outgoing National President of AGN, Emeka Rollas, disclosed this during the inauguration of the guild’s new National Executive Council (NEC) at the AGN national secretariat in Abuja.

Rollas explained that although Abubakar had taken the guild to court, the AGN conducted its own investigations and imposed the suspension in line with its rules.

“Acting is her primary means of livelihood, and it would be unfair to leave her indefinitely suspended,” Rollas said. “By the authority vested in me by the Board of Trustees and the Actors Guild of Nigeria, I hereby lift Halima Abubakar’s suspension.”

Rollas, whose second and final term ended in December 2025, officially handed over leadership to the new national president, Abubakar Yakubu.

He also announced the lifting of suspensions on four other members of the Enugu State chapter of the guild—Christopher Igboji, Chidi Concord, Dan Ewerem and Jeff Okwute—explaining that he did not wish to leave any unresolved disciplinary issues as he exited office.

Earlier, Chairman of the inauguration organising committee, Chuks Chyke, praised Rollas for his leadership, describing it as courageous and inclusive, and credited him with helping to stabilise the guild during challenging periods.

Chyke congratulated the newly inaugurated president and NEC members, urging them to promote transparency, unity and professionalism. He said the peaceful transition of leadership reflected the strength, maturity and unity of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

He further called on AGN members nationwide to support the new leadership in sustaining the guild as a strong, united and globally respected professional body.
