Labour Party Names Alex Otti as National Leader

The Labour Party (LP) has formally named Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, as its National Leader and conveyed goodwill to its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following his decision to join the coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC).

This was contained in a communiqué issued by the party’s National Secretary, Darlington Nwokocha.

According to the statement, the resolution was reached at a meeting of the Labour Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) held on Wednesday, where discussions centered on the party’s stability, expansion, and overall strategic direction.

“The NWC, acting unanimously, hereby recognizes His Excellency, Governor Alex Chioma Otti, as the National Leader of the Labour Party,” the communiqué stated in part.

It also noted that the party’s national leadership wished Peter Obi well in his future political pursuits and in his new political alignment.

In addition, the Labour Party announced that former Minister of Finance, Nenadi Usman, has been acknowledged as its National Chairman.

The party reiterated its respect for the Supreme Court ruling of April 4, 2025, which declared that the tenure of Julius Abure as National Chairman had elapsed.

LP further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fully recognize Nenadi Usman and National Secretary Darlington Nwokocha in line with the court’s judgment.

The communiqué emphasized that all party congresses and the National Convention would be conducted strictly in accordance with the party’s constitution, urging members at all levels to actively take part in the processes.

The party concluded by thanking its members and the general public for their ongoing support, reaffirming its unity and commitment to building a Nigeria founded on equal opportunity, social justice, and good governance.
