Lagos announces traffic diversions for Wednesday, Thursday project unveiling

The Lagos State Government has announced planned traffic diversions across major parts of the state ahead of infrastructure project commissioning events scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the temporary road closures are aimed at ensuring public safety and the smooth execution of the ceremonies.

Motorists have been urged to plan their journeys in advance and avoid affected routes during the specified periods to reduce congestion and delays.

According to the statement, the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge will be inaugurated on Wednesday, April 8, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., with traffic expected to be impacted in the Opebi-Allen, Ikeja, and Ojota areas. Road users in these locations are advised to use alternative routes and allow extra travel time.

Later that same day, another event will take place between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. around Eko Hotel & Suites and within Victoria Island, where motorists are also advised to steer clear of the area or prepare for delays.

The statement further noted that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, along with other traffic enforcement agencies, will be on ground to manage vehicular movement and assist commuters.

Earlier reports indicated that the state government has deployed 500 additional LASTMA officers for the events, which are expected to be attended by President Bola Tinubu.

Osiyemi called on residents to cooperate with traffic officials and adhere to all directives to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the ceremonies.
