The Lagos State House of Assembly has dismissed reports alleging that it made provisions in the 2026 budget to buy houses in Abuja for its members.
According to Naija News, the Assembly described the claims as false and misleading, stating that they were intended to misinform the public.
In a statement signed by Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, and Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh, Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, the lawmakers clarified that no funds were allocated for the purchase of houses in Abuja or any location outside Lagos State.
They described the report as baseless and politically driven.
The Assembly stressed that its legislative duties, responsibilities and constituencies are strictly within Lagos State, making the alleged purchase of personal housing outside the state illogical.
Lawmakers also noted that the 2026 budget is publicly available and clearly reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of Lagos residents while ensuring prudent management of public resources.
They further explained that the House of Assembly’s capital expenditure for 2026 represents less than 0.04 per cent of the state’s total capital spending, underscoring its careful and accountable use of funds. In previous years, they added, the Assembly often did not exhaust its approved budget.
The statement urged Lagos residents to disregard the false reports and rely on verified official sources for accurate information.
The Assembly also warned that individuals spreading the claims could face legal action if they fail to substantiate their allegations.
The lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to transparency, good governance and the welfare of Lagosians, in line with the objectives of the 2026 Budget of Shared Prosperity.
