Manchester United reportedly paid Ruben Amorim £10 million in compensation following his dismissal on Monday, according to the Daily Mail.
The 40-year-old coach departed Old Trafford after just 14 months at the helm. He was informed of the club’s decision during an early-morning meeting with chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox at the Carrington training complex, shortly after a 1–1 draw with Leeds United.
Reports also indicate that Amorim had fallen out with the club’s hierarchy in the days leading up to the match at Elland Road.
Overall, United’s decision to appoint and then sack Amorim is said to have cost the club close to £27 million. The club paid £8.3 million to buy out his contract at Sporting Lisbon in October 2024, along with an additional £900,000 to allow him begin work ahead of schedule.
Amorim had signed a deal worth £6.5 million per year, running until June 2027, meaning his severance package for the remaining term amounts to approximately £10.05 million.
