Ndume Alleges Nigerian Government Is Monitoring His Phone Calls

Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has alleged that the Nigerian government is monitoring his phone conversations.

Ndume made the claim on Thursday during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television.

According to the lawmaker, he has received several warnings advising him to be cautious about his phone discussions, as they are allegedly being tracked.

He questioned the effectiveness of security agencies, noting that while prominent individuals can be monitored, terrorists continue to operate freely and even publicize their activities on platforms like TikTok.

Ndume, however, stated that he is not troubled by the alleged surveillance, emphasizing that Nigeria is currently grappling with serious security challenges.

“You can imagine bandits and terrorists boldly sharing their attacks on TikTok and spreading them widely,” he said.

“If phones can be tracked, including those of politically exposed persons like myself, it raises questions about why authorities are unable to trace the whereabouts or activities of these criminals.”

He added that he had been repeatedly cautioned to watch what he says over the phone due to possible monitoring.

When directly asked if he believed the government was tracking his calls, Ndume responded affirmatively, noting that he does not see it as a major issue given the country’s current security situation.
