Nigerian players have once again asserted their dominance in African women’s football after five Super Falcons stars were named in the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) Women’s Africa XI for 2025.
The list, unveiled as the IFFHS CAF Women’s Team of the Year for 2025, includes goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Michelle Alozie and Ashleigh Plumptre, along with midfielders Christy Ucheibe and Rasheedat Ajibade.
Nnadozie’s selection comes as no surprise, given her reputation as one of Africa’s top goalkeepers. Her consistent performances for the Super Falcons and her club sides in Europe have earned widespread praise, with her composure, shot-stopping ability and command of the box standing out.
In defence, Alozie and Plumptre anchor a solid back line noted for its speed, physical strength and tactical discipline. They are joined in the XI by South Africa’s Bambanani Mbane and Lebohang Ramalepe.
The midfield features Ucheibe, recognised for her defensive awareness and ability to protect the back line, alongside Ajibade, whose creativity, work rate and attacking flair add balance to the team. They partner Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak, the 2025 CAF African Women’s Player of the Year.
The attacking line is completed by Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga, Zambia’s Barbra Banda and Morocco’s Sanaâ Mssoudy—three forwards known for their goal-scoring prowess and match-winning qualities.
IFFHS explained that the Women’s Africa XI is a forward-looking projection for 2025 rather than a reward for past achievements. The selection is based on in-depth statistical analysis and expert evaluation of players’ performances at club and international levels, with emphasis on consistency, form and overall influence.
According to the organisation, the final team highlights nations currently shaping the growth and competitiveness of women’s football in Africa, with Nigeria leading the pack, followed by strong representation from South Africa, Morocco and Zambia.
Established in 1984 and headquartered in Germany, the IFFHS is an independent body recognised by FIFA and globally respected for its comprehensive football statistics and annual rankings.
