‘No One Can Deny Me My Right To Visit Any Part Of Nigeria’ — Peter Obi

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has stated that no person or group can strip him of his constitutional right to travel to any part of Nigeria.

Speaking in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, where he formally registered with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Obi stressed that every Nigerian citizen is guaranteed the freedom of movement across the country.

The former governor recalled that he recently travelled to Rivers State despite warnings advising him against the visit. According to him, he honoured the invitation shortly after surviving an assassination attempt in Benin City.

“I am a Nigerian and I have the freedom to visit any part of the country. That is a constitutional right that no one can take away from me,” he said.

Obi also reaffirmed his intention to run in the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the ADC, noting that he remains committed to Nigeria’s democratic process.

He emphasised the need for reforms that will expand opportunities for citizens and strengthen the country’s institutions.

“I’m not desperate to become the President of Nigeria, but I am determined to see Nigeria work,” he stated.

“We want a nation where the son of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.”

Explaining his exit from the Labour Party, Obi said the decision was influenced by internal leadership crises within the party as well as concerns over how court rulings related to the disputes were handled.

According to him, these developments prompted his move to a new political platform ahead of the next electoral cycle.
