Panel Suspends Euracare MD, Others Over Death Of Chimamanda’s Son

The Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel has suspended the Medical Director of Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital, Dr Tunde Majekodunmi, along with two other medical practitioners over the death of Nkanu Adichie-Esege, son of renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr Ivara Esege.

Nkanu reportedly passed away on January 7, 2026, after receiving treatment at Atlantis Hospital and undergoing medical procedures at Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital in Lagos.

In a statement signed by its Secretary, Dr Enejo Abdu, the panel said it found a prima facie case of medical negligence in the handling of Nkanu’s treatment.

In addition to Majekodunmi, the panel suspended Euracare’s anesthesiologist, Dr Titus Ogundare, and the Chief Medical Officer of Atlantis Pediatric Hospital, Dr Atinuke Uwajeh.

The three doctors have been barred from practising medicine in Nigeria pending the outcome of proceedings before the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.

Abdu further disclosed that the panel identified a prima facie case of professional misconduct against 10 other doctors. They include Dr Adeseye Akinsete, Dr Chidinma Ohagwu, Dr Anthony Ajeh, Dr Amarachi Bayo, Dr Nkechi Peji, Dr Olaoye Oludare, Dr Agaja Oyinkansola, Dr Patricia Akintan, Dr Babatunde Bamgboye and Dr Raji Faidat.

After reviewing complaints against 21 doctors, examining their counter-affidavits and considering their sworn oral testimonies, the panel cleared eight practitioners of wrongdoing.

The investigation was concluded during the panel’s 25th session held at Excel Hotel & Resort in Abuja.
