Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine turns himself in at Brooklyn jail to begin three-month sentence

American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, born Daniel Hernandez, surrendered to authorities on Tuesday, January 6, reporting to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, at his scheduled time of 2 p.m.

The rapper is set to serve a 90-day jail term after being sentenced for violating the conditions of his supervised release. The facility is the same detention center currently holding several high-profile inmates.

Hernandez was originally indicted in 2018 in a federal racketeering case involving a criminal group he was associated with. He later pleaded guilty to conspiracy and related charges and testified against other members of the group in exchange for leniency.

He was accompanied by streamer Adin Ross when he arrived at the jail to begin his sentence. His lawyer said the rapper is expected to be kept separate from the general inmate population, possibly alongside other high-profile detainees.

According to his attorney, Tekashi 6ix9ine is eager to serve his sentence, put the episode behind him and return to his music career. Before surrendering, he appeared in a nearly two-hour livestream on Adin Ross’s channel, where friends gathered to see him off, including content creator Stephen Deleonardis, who removed the rapper’s ankle monitor during the broadcast.
