Senator Dumps APC Over Rising Insecurity in Sokoto

Senator Ibrahim Lamido, representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing worsening insecurity and the hardship faced by his constituents.

In a statement shared on ๐•, Lamido said persistent bandit attacks and inadequate government response have left communities exposed, with several villages destroyed and many residents displaced.

He noted that repeated efforts to attract federal intervention yielded little success, stressing that his decision was driven by the need to protect lives and livelihoods rather than personal or political interests.

The lawmaker added that he consulted widely with supporters, colleagues, and community leaders before taking the step. While he did not disclose his next political move, he said his focus remains on improving security and grassroots development.

Lamido also urged the federal government to intensify efforts against banditry and restore peace across Sokoto and other affected northern regions, warning that continued inaction could deepen the crisis.

Announcing his resignation, he said his decision was based on the partyโ€™s failure to ensure the safety and well-being of the people he represents.
