Six Osun Federal Lawmakers Defect from PDP to Accord Party

Six members of the House of Representatives from Osun State have officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the Accord Party.

The lawmakers announced their defection on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Accord Party in Osogbo. The declaration was made by Clement Akanni, who represents the Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, speaking on behalf of his colleagues.

Others who made the switch include Mahruf Adewale (Osogbo Federal Constituency), Bamidele Salam (Ede Federal Constituency), Soji Adetunji (Ikirun Federal Constituency), Mudashiru Lukman Alani (Iwo Federal Constituency), and Lanre Oladebo (Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency).

Addressing party members at the gathering, Akanni expressed optimism that Ademola Adeleke would emerge victorious in the August 15 governorship election. He urged supporters to turn out in large numbers, remain at polling units after casting their votes, and carefully verify ballot papers and result sheets to ensure transparency.

According to him, the expectation within their camp is that the majority of votes will favour Adeleke.

Speaking at the event, Governor Adeleke explained that his earlier exit from the PDP followed extensive consultations and personal reflection. He noted that internal challenges within the party prompted him to seek an alternative platform ahead of his re-election bid.

The governor revealed that he consulted trusted political allies and sought spiritual guidance before settling on the Accord Party, which he joined in December 2025 and under which he has secured the governorship ticket.

Meanwhile, 25 members of the Osun State House of Assembly elected on the PDP platform in the 2023 general elections have also defected to the Accord Party. They said the move would enable them to continue serving their constituencies effectively under the new political platform.
