Shell to Exit Nigeria’s Gas Distribution Business After Sale to Vaaris Energy

Shell Petroleum B.V. has announced plans to exit Nigeria’s gas distribution business following the sale of its entire interest in Shell Nigeria Gas Group (SNG) to Nigerian energy company Vaaris Energy Limited.
The company disclosed the transaction in a statement on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, describing the deal as part of its strategy to simplify its portfolio and focus investments on areas where it has competitive strengths.
Shell said SNG would continue serving its customers and operating normally until the transaction is completed.
The company noted that Shell Nigeria Gas had served industrial and commercial customers in Nigeria for more than 25 years, adding that the agreement would provide a stronger platform for the business under new ownership.
