UEFA Fines Tottenham, Suspends Away Ticket Ban Over Nazi Salute Incident

UEFA has fined Tottenham Hotspur and imposed a suspended ban on the club’s sale of away tickets after three supporters were found to have made Nazi salutes toward Eintracht Frankfurt fans.

The incident occurred during a Champions League fixture at Deutsche Bank Park on January 28, a match Spurs won 2-0.

European football’s governing body said the sanctions were issued due to “racist and/or discriminatory behaviour” by Tottenham supporters. The away ticket ban will remain suspended for a one-year probationary period.

Tottenham were fined £26,000 (€30,000), with an additional £1,966 (€2,250) penalty imposed for objects thrown by fans.

The club swiftly condemned the actions of those involved, describing the behaviour as “utterly abhorrent.” Tottenham confirmed that the three individuals responsible had been identified and handed indefinite bans under the club’s disciplinary policy.

The club reiterated its strong stance against discrimination, stating that the actions of a few individuals do not reflect its values or those of its wider fanbase.

The development follows a similar controversy in Spain, where Real Madrid launched an investigation after a supporter allegedly made a Nazi salute prior to their Champions League victory over Benfica.

Elsewhere, two men have been charged following crowd disturbances during Nottingham Forest’s Europa League home clash against Fenerbahçe.

Police arrested three individuals after incidents that reportedly included flares being thrown from the away section, leading to a temporary stoppage in the first half.

One suspect has been charged with throwing a missile near the pitch, while another faces charges for entering the playing area during the match. Both have been granted bail with conditions and are scheduled to appear before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on March 17.

Authorities confirmed that no further action was taken against a third individual arrested on suspicion of assaulting a steward. Additionally, a section of seating in the away end at the City Ground was found damaged after the game.

Despite losing 2-1 on the night, Nottingham Forest advanced to the next round with a 4-2 aggregate victory.
