UPDATE : AGN Reacts to Arrest of Nollywood Actor Linked to Alleged Coup Plot Against Tinubu

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has addressed reports connecting one of its members, Stanley Amandi, to an alleged plot to overthrow the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Amandi, a Nollywood filmmaker and former chairman of the AGN Enugu State chapter, was reportedly arrested last year alongside other civilians accused of involvement in the foiled coup attempt.

Speaking with TheCable Lifestyle on Friday, former AGN National President, Emeka Rollas, confirmed that the guild was aware of the situation and noted that an official statement would be released soon.

According to a report by Premium Times, Amandi was allegedly enlisted by military officers involved in the plot to act as a propagandist, tasked with shaping narratives and influencing public opinion ahead of the planned takeover.

The report further claimed that the officers behind the alleged scheme intended a violent seizure of power, with senior government officials reportedly marked as targets.

Speculation about a possible coup first surfaced in October 2025 after the Federal Government abruptly cancelled activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary. At the time, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) denied any connection between the cancellation and a coup plot, describing the arrest of some officers as routine disciplinary action.

However, on October 31, 2025, 16 military officers were arrested in connection with the alleged plot, while two others were said to be at large.

Subsequently, the Defence Headquarters officially confirmed that a coup plot had been uncovered. Military authorities stated that the officers involved would face court-martial, while civilians allegedly linked to the plot—including Amandi—would be prosecuted in civil courts.
