UPDATE : FCTA Workers Return to Work Following Court Order Suspending Strike

Normal activities resumed across the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and its affiliated ministries, departments, and agencies on Wednesday after workers returned to their posts in compliance with a court order halting the indefinite strike.

On Tuesday, Justice E. D. Subilim of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria directed members of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) to immediately suspend the strike and resume work, while also urging all parties to continue discussions to resolve the dispute.

In response to the ruling, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike instructed employees to promptly return to their duty stations, emphasizing that although protest is a legitimate democratic right, court orders must be respected.

“To be clear, while citizens have the right to protest in a democracy, court directives must be obeyed,” the minister stated.

To ensure full compliance, the Acting Head of Civil Service of the FCT, Mrs Nancy Sabanti, issued a circular dated January 27, 2026, directing all Secretariats, Departments, and Agencies (SDAs) to reopen for normal operations and closely monitor staff attendance.

The circular further instructed Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Agencies to maintain attendance registers and ensure full staff turnout, while reaffirming the FCTA’s commitment to resolving workers’ grievances through due process.

According to Vanguard, checks at several FCTA offices and related agencies confirmed that many workers had resumed duties, with staff observed carrying out their regular responsibilities.
